​Probate of the Will of Richard Titterington late of Ballyknock Hillsborough County Down Farmer who died 19 July 1899 granted at Belfast to Robert Stanfield of Corcreeny Hillsborough Farmer.

The will states;

 

This is the last will and testament of me Richard Titterington of Ballyknock in the County of Down, Farmer, I revoke all wills or testamentary dispositions heretofore by me made.  I appoint Robert Stanfield of Corcreeny, Andrew Stanfield of Toughblane and John Cantley of Ballyknock, all of County of Down, Farmers to be the Executors of this my will.  I direct my Executors to pay all my just debts and funeral and testamentary expenses as soon as convenient after my decease, I give devise and bequeath all  my farm of land together with the live stock crop and chattels thereon in the townland of Ballyknock aforesaid to my son Thomas, subject to the payment of the legacies hereinafter contained and to the yearly payment to be made by him to my wife Elizabeth Ann hereinafter mentioned.  I also give and bequeath th my said son Thomas all the furniture and everything in my house in Ballyknock aforesaid save a bed and bedding hereinafter bequeathed to my said wife, Elizabeth Ann.  I give to my daughter Eliza Ann the sum of 25 pounds sterling to my daughter, Catherine Lee wife of Isaac Lee, the sum of five pound sterling and to my daughter Mary Gibson, wife of James Gibson the sum of five shillings.   I give to my daughter, Jane Craig, wife of James Craig the sum of five shillings and to my son Richard, now in Scotland the sum of five pounds sterling.  I direct that the legacies to Catherine Lee and my son Richard shall not be paid until the expiration of two years from my decease.  I bequeath to my said wife Elizabeth Ann a bed and bedding to be selected by her and I direct that my said wife shall continue to live with my said son Thomas, he maintaining her in the same way in which she is now provided for and paying her the sum of one pound ten shillings every year for the purpose of providing suitable clothing.  Further I direct that in case my said wife and my said son Thomas shall not live agreeably, then and in such case my said son Thomas shall pay to my said wife the sum of six pound sterling per annum during her natural life, the first payment to be made twelve months after she shall leave my said son Thomas,  Dated this thirteenth day of August one thousand eight hundred and ninety six.

Signed and published by the said Richard Titterington as and for his last will and testament in the presence of us, who in his presence at his request and with presence of each other have hereunto subscribed our names as witnesses the figures of 22 pounds on the last line of the firs page hereof having been first changed to 25 pounds and the words 'pound' on first line of second page here of having been written on an erasure, the foregoing having been first well and truly read over and explained to the said Richard Titterington who affixed his mark to his name in our presence ----
