THE CONWAY SETTLERS

The Conway Settlers were mainly English men and their families, who settled in and around Lisburn in the 17th Century.  Their names can be found settled from Lambeg to Glenavy.  They were mostly in Lord Conway’s regiment and Rawdon’s troop of horse, serving in the rebellion of 1641 and many other battles.  Lord Conway and Major Rawdon were brothers.

The steadfast loyalty of these original Settlers is represented again by their descendants, in a published list of voters in the General Election of 1790, a time when unrest and signs of Rebellion were emerging.  They were referred to by their enemies having the sword in one hand and the Bible in the other.

The name of Titterington appears on the list together with Craig, Wolfenden, Walker, Bell, Haslem, Fleming, Hunter and many, many others.
