St John's Parish Church, Moira
ST JOHN’S is part of the Diocese of Down and Dromore. The parish was established in 1721 being formed from part of the Parish of Magheralin. Prior to that, services were held in the Charity School. The church was built on ground from Moira Castle. The Church and the Graveyard are in the town land of Clare. The oldest Church records have been lost, but Baptismal and Burial Registers from 1825 still survive.
This church is of particular significance to Linda and Anne’s tree. Their research shows that Edward Titterington lived in Clare and was a Sexton of the church for many years. Edward’s parents were John Titterington, a Tailor and Mary Wolfendon of Magheralin. Edward's grandson, Thomas, is recorded on the Roll of Honour which is housed in the entrance to the Church.
Edward was buried at the rear of the Church in 1906, his son Edward having been buried there in 1896 and grandson, James in 1945.
