KAY

Whilst researching his Titterington ancestry, Bob came into contact with Kay.  She helped him in his research and he recalls here some of his memories of her.  He says:

According to Kay two leading lights during the plantation of Ulster were Ensign Stewart Hill and Captain Titterington. Kay went on to say, and I quote. "whereas Stewart ascended, the Titteringtons became hewers of wood and drawers of water" If memory serves me right Kay also said that Ensign Stewart is associated with Hillsborough Castle.

Kay Simpson was a truly charming and remarkable woman. When we finally met many years after corresponding, I instinctively felt that we were somehow or other related. Kay felt the same. I retain fond memories of our meeting and could never thank Kay enough for what she did for me in spearheading my research. Not only did Kay respond to my letter, she took up the cause and personally scoured the Public Records in Belfast searching out all the Titterington's she could find. I don't know how many trips Kay made to Belfast, suffice to say beyond numerous. This was a time before home computers were available so Kay had her work cut out; travelling to Belfast, recording the details by hand, and then making a second handwritten copy to send to me. I kept Kay's letters for twenty years or more then thought to myself what will become of these letters when I am gone? I am already 79 years of age! With all of Kay's dedicated hard work in mind, I painstakingly put together a handwritten record using an A4 Hardcover Notebook that told the Titterington story as Kay and I duly unearthed it, incorporating details of each Titterington Kay recorded, as also the text of each of her covering letters, and those sent me by another of the three namely, the late Vera Titterington of Trumra Villa,  Lisburn Road, Moira.  In recent years I made a copy of that book, again in my own handwriting, which I placed in the safe custody of Researcher Linda who has since put it to its proper use as an archive and has included much of the information on this Titterington Website.  Although I have not been in touch with the Simpson family since Kay's passing, I know they will be pleased to learn of this and hopefully will gain access to the site.
