Where Do They Belong?
Many of the Titterington Ancestors have the same Christian name, such as John, James, Thomas, Matthew etc etc. Ages given are often unreliable. Addresses are often confusing. This can all make research rather difficult. Here you will see some of the findings for different people bearing the same name and also some Titteringtons who are just puzzling! In some cases it has been possible to identify the persons concerned, but others are more obscure.

If you are you able to identify to which Titterington branch they belong, or give any further information relating to any of them, please let us know.

THOUGHTS ON THE DOROTHIES

-
DOROTHY CORREN is the wife of John T and they are parents of John Titterington b. 1790 and spouse of Mary Wolfington. It is likely that John and Dorothy Corren would have named a daughter (3rd maybe) Dorothy after herself. It is also likely that John and Mary W would have named a daughter (2nd maybe) Dorothy, after John’s mother.
-
DOROTHEA TITTERINGTON b. c. 1796 and DOD 1887. She is bequeathed 5/- in the will of Mary (nee Walsh)Titterington, who died in 1886 – see Wb17 Glenn’s tree and was wife to Richard T (1809-1867) Why would Mary bequeath money to Dorothea – was she her sister-in-law, i.e. sister to Richard b. 1809? Her death record tells us she was aged 89 years, a spinster and a cotton weaver. She died of senile decay (uncertified) and that a Robert Conlon was the informant and he was present at her death in Ballyknock. Robert gave his mark.
-
DOROTHY OR DOLLY T married William McCarty in 1836. The records I think state that she was born in 1823 - married in 1836 (aged 13???) - so I think it is natural to challenge that DOB - probably a transcription error and her DOB was more likely 1813. This would have meant that IF her mother was Mary Wolfendon, she would have been aged 19 years at her birth.
Conclusion
-
Dorothy (1796 – 1887) was probably the daughter of John T and Dorothy Corren and should be recorded in tree Wa7i (Linda and Anne’s) as such, the sibling of John T b. 1790. She MAY have been related to Richard b. 1809
2. Dolly/Dorothea T McCarty was the child of John T and Mary W therefore sibling to Edward T b. 1828 and should therefore be recorded in Wa7 i (Linda and Anne’s tree). This should provide a link to Karen’s tree (Wb7)

I have no proof that Dolly was the child of John and Mary Wolfendon - but it does seem as if there would have been children born prior to Edward and even Joshua.
However an alternative parentage might be as the illegitimate child of Dorothy Titterington b. 1796. This Dorothy would have been aged about 18 years.
In either case, it would seem likely that these 3 Dorothies -i.e. Dorothy Corren, Dorothy Spinster and Dolly Titterington McCarthy are all closely related and belong somewhere closely linked.

HUGH TITTERINGTONS
-
IGI states that Hugh Titterington and Mary Jane Crawford were the parents of Hugh in 1864 (prob DOB) in Belfast, Antrim. This would have made this Hugh about 45 years if he came to US c 1909.

2. Another record at IGI records Hugh T born on 29 May, 1864 and is the son of Hugh and Mary as above, again in Belfast.

3. A Hugh Titterington is living at 21 Baden Powell Street, Belfast in 1912 when he signed the Covenant. I wonder if this is Hugh of Hugh and Mary and parents of Hugh.

4. A third Hugh, who was baptized on the 12 April, 1835 in Hillsboro Church and came from Culcavey, Blaris. He was the son of Hugh (Labourer) and Catherine.

So it could be that Hugh and Catherine had son Hugh in 1835, who married Mary and they had a son Hugh in 1864 who may have come to the US?

5. Ancestry,co.uk records that Hugh T was the parent of George T in 1852 in Ballyknock, Moira
