The Titteringtons of Northern Ireland
Lesley

My Grandfather, Thomas Titterington, born 1890 in Scotland often remembered family who were originally from the Hillsborough area of Down, Northern Ireland. He often talked also about the hardships of the Irish workers in Glasgow who were employed at the Garngad chemical works who departed Ireland in the 1870 -1880’s in search of work and were exploited both on low wages and bad health conditions in the factories.

I knew my Uncle, Rev. Thomas Johnston Titterington and Aunt Sigrid had researched the family visiting Hillsborough during the 1980s recording the parish records up to the time of the departure of most of Richard and Isabella’s children from Ireland to Glasgow I then became interested in finding information about the Titteringtons.

My first visit to Northern Ireland was to Hillsborough in 2017 but prior to that I had researched the family tree with help from my Aunt’s scribbled notes and various web sites. I since discovered the Titterington’s of Northern Ireland web-site which has a wealth of information of previous generations.
