V1 The Will of Richard Titterington of Ovenden dod 1649

 

The will was originally written in Latin.  This is a transcript.  Richard's wife, Gennet More, had died in about 1610 and so she is not included.

"In the name of God Amen.  I Richard Titterington of Ovenden in ye County of Yorke, Clothier being sick and weak in body yet of good and perfect memory praised be God doe advisedly ordeyne and make this my last will and testament in manner and forme following (viz) 

​

First I commend my Soule into the hands of Almighty God my Heavenly Father. Jesus Christ his dear Sonne my Saviour and the Holy Ghost my Sanctifier through whose mercies and merits, I firmly believe eternal to be saved and my body I commit to the earth in sure hope of a Joyful resurrection.  And touching such worldly estate as it hath pleased God to bless me with all.

First I give and bequeath all my household goods which I now have in my own house, after my decease to Mary Wilkinson, wife of Abraham Wilkinson of Ovenden my daughter (Excepting two Browne Blankets, which I give to Susan (abbreviated, perhaps Susanna or Sarann) Bolton, her sister.  

 

Item:  I give and bequeath Seaven pounds Seaventeene Shillings which William Spencer of Glasburne owes me to be well and honestly brought forth, out of the Same my debts to be well and truly paid and the remainder to Stephen sonne of Stephen Titterington, my Sonne.  

 

Item:  I give and bequeath Nine pounds which Peter Blaky of Hall in Cowling Head owes me to John Wilkinson sonne of Abraham Wilkinson my Grandchild to be paid him when he comes to the age of one and twenty years, and if he die before to his sister Martha Wilkinson.  And my mind further is that the said Peter Blakey shall keep it in his hands till ... paying use and giving Security for the same after Eight pence pound.

 

Item:  I give and bequeath ye sum of thirteen pounds Six Shillings Eight pence or there abouts whether it be more or less which I have remaining in the hands of William Spencer and John Spencer upon a .. . accept to Stephen Titterington sonne (sic) of Stephen Titterington my Grandchild to be paid him when shall accomplish his full age of one and twenty yeares.

Item:  I give to my Sonne, John Titterington one Shilling in Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the sixth day of June Anno Domini one thousand six hundred fourty nine.
