Wa8 (ii) Joseph, John and Richard, sons of Richard and Rebecca

Whilst it has been possible to find a lot of information for the families and descendants of Adam and William, less is known about Richard and Rebecca’s other children Joseph, John and Richard and nothing at all about their daughter, Nancy.

Joseph b. 1777

Alan Cookson’s work suggests that their son, Joseph had two sons, namely James and John, spouse of Jane Matthews. He also suggests that this James had a son named Joseph.

Irish Genealogy records that Joseph married Susan Herald on Saturday, 21st February, 1857 in Lisburn Parish.  Joseph Titterington was a Baker, of full age and was the son of James Titterington, a Blacksmith.  Susan Herald, aged 19 years, was a dressmaker, the daughter of John Herald, a Land Steward, and the couple were both living in Pipers hill, Lisburn.  Witnesses were Charles McBride and Sarah Herald.

Evidence suggests that John Titterington and Jane Matthews were the parents of James b. 1825, Richard and Joseph.  Further evidence indicates that Joseph, John, James b. 1842 and Jane were all siblings. One can only assume then, that the first son James died before the birth of the second.   You can see this branch in Chart Wa9.  Their children then provide the branches of Wa9i, Wa9ii, Wa9iii, Wa9iv and Wa9v.

What Happened to John and Richard?

Two of Richard's sons, John and Richard, appear in the Court of Common Pleas, Pittsburgh in about 1801.

At the time in question there were only Irish Titteringtons in the USA, the Halifax Titteringtons did not arrive in the USA until abt 1814. We don´t have a death for this John so it is probable he did come back to Ireland as may Joseph and Matthew.  There Is substantial evidence to show that Adam, William and their descendants lived their lives in the US.
