Our Research has thrown up some interesting information - can you help answer any of the questions that have arisen?

What do we know about the Gormans? (re Chart Wa7)

1.     Joshua Titterington (b. 1825) married Catherine Gorman(b. 1838) on 12 July, 1861.  Joshua was probably the brother of Edward Titterington (b. 1828) – see Chart Wa7 i.  Catherine’s father was James Gorman, a labourer.  Edward's son, James, married Susan Houston.

2.    In the 1901 census, there is a Gorman family living at 258 Middle Division, Carrickfergus, Antrim.  The family comprises:  Edward Gorman (Head of Family) aged 73 years.  His daughters – Catherine aged 35 years and Joyce aged 32 years.  Neither are married.  His nephew, aged 53 years is named Robert Houston.

3.    In the English census for 1861 there is a Gorman family living with a number of lodgers at 14 Bernard Street, Glossop.  They are all listed as being born in Ireland.  Glossop is about 8 miles from Dukinfield.  The Head of the family is Michael Gorman, a Tailor.   One of his daughters, is called Catherine and is aged 18 years.  Of greater interest is a lodger named Catherine Gorman and she is aged 22 years.  The census was taken on 7 April, 1861.  Could this be the Catherine Gorman who married Joshua on 12 July, 1861?

JAMES TITTERINGTON (abt 1857-c1890) see Chart Wb18

Whitfield Titterington is living in Tucsola, but his death is recorded in 1881 in Saginaw.  The evidence I have that this James is the son of Whitfield is that he can be found in the US census of 1880.  He is living with Edward Titterington as his brother,   and sister-in-law, Margaret.  He was aged 24 years and he worked in a Drill House.

He married on 28th June, 1883 to Cora Crane.  He was aged 26 and she was aged 18 years.  His occupation was railroading.

The Saginaw, Michigan Directory of 1883 shows us that he was a Railway Fireman.  A death certificate indicates that James and Cora had a daughter named Mable who died on 13th October, 1901 at the age of 16.  This document was signed by William Dresser.

A second daughter, Elizabeth was born in 1887.

In the 1889 City Directory, he is listed as an Engineer for the MMCR (Railway?).

Unfortunately, there is no more evidence for James after this date, yet found.  Dora marries William Dresser in 1891 as a widow.

The question is:  Where is the evidence to prove that James died?
